What do you think about what Rush Limbaugh just said?

In the 19th century the border was wide open. Anybody could go where they wanted to. There weren't fences to keep people where other people thought they belonged. There were no border police or anything of that nature. There are Hispanics whose ancestors have been in this country longer than white people, and certainly longer than Rush's Germanic ancestors have been here, so who exactly is the immigrant? Much of what we consider our Western heritage was created by Spanish caballeros (cowboys), It is ridiculous to believe that everyone who has a Spanish name got here illegally. Even early in the 20th century there was no restriction on people crossing the border.
