I live in Ca and we are suffering another drought cycle. We have flow restrictors on all our faucets, to reduce the amount to water that flows when they are turned on. I'm not sure about the amount of electricity an infrared sensor uses, but it should easily be offset by the amount of water is can save. In CA it takes a lot of energy to get the water to the faucet. I've read a statistic that said 1/3 of the electricity consumed in CA is to move water.
